Install ADB and Fastboot On Ubuntu 19.04/20.04:

We can simply install it using the below commands. This will automatically install all the dependencies required for it. 

sudo apt update
sudo apt install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot

You can check the ADB version with the below command. 

[email protected]:~$ adb version
Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.39
Version 1:8.1.0+r23-5ubuntu2
Installed as /usr/lib/android-sdk/platform-tools/adb

Now Enable USB Debugging On your Device:

Make sure your android device is unplugged from the USB. Now you have to go to the “android settings” and scroll down till you find the “about phone“.

Once you have reached it and now look for “build number” then tap 7 times on it.

Once the above process is completed, we need to check whether it’s working or not. Now connect your android device to your ubuntu machine with USB.

Before running the below command, we need to start ADB daemon using adb start-server.

Type “adb devices” from the terminal. Now you will be prompt to “Allow USB debugging” from your device and click on “Ok“.

Run the “adb devices” from the terminal and it will show you all the devices connected. 

[email protected]:~$ adb devices
List of devices attached

If you face any issue related to permission, you need to kill the daemon and restart it again using the below commands.

[email protected]:~$ adb kill-server
[email protected]:~$ adb start-server

The daemon will be running on port number 5037ou can find it using netstat command.

[email protected]:~$ netstat -tnlp | grep adb
tcp   0   0   127.0.0.1:5037   0.0.0.0:*   LISTEN   12174/adb
