Install and Configure Mediawiki On CentOS / Redhat 7

Mediawiki is a free and open-source media engine where you can provide the information to your readers and adopted by many companies. we do share links and create posts to spread the information to the users. we can install and configure MediaWiki using instructions given on official sites to install on Linux. so

Installation For Mediawiki we will require the LAMP setup on the Linux machine. so

Install the Apache web server and MariaDB for the database. so

yum install httpd -y

yum install mariadb mariadb-server -y

For PHP installation, you will need the Remi repositories. so

yum -y install http://rpms.remirepo.net/enterprise/remi-release-7.rpm

we can enable and disable Remi repositories using yum-config-manager –enable remi-php73

install mediawiki

Now we will create a database and assign permission to the user. so

mysql -u root -p

 mediawiki install

create database media;

grant all privileges on media.* to 'meduser'@'%' identified by 'mediauser';

flush privileges;

we have to download the Mediawiki packages using the below commands.

wget https://releases.wikimedia.org/mediawiki/1.34/mediawiki-1.34.0.tar.gz

install instructions

Extract the files using tar -xvf mediawiki-1.34.0.tar.gz -C /var/www/html/

install mediawiki linux

if you don’t get the MediaWiki URL working, you may try to create a virtual host and then hit the URL. so

URL: http://your_ip/index.php

Click on set up the wifi

Select your language and click on continue so

Now it will check the required packages and dependencies. It seems all okay and clicks on continue.

Fill your database details and click on continue.

Now Select database account and using the same.

It will ask you to create an administrator account.

Once you click on continue and installation starts.

Everything is done and click on continue.

Installation completed and it will download a LocalSettings.php file where all the information is stored. We need to put in the code base of the MediaWiki directory.

mv LocalSettings.php /var/www/html/mediawiki/

Now visit the main page with http://192.168.185.135/index.php/Main_Page and click on the login

Now you’re logged in to MediaWiki.
