How To Install and Enable RepoForge Repository On Linux

Install and Enable RPMForge is now known as RepoForge. This is a utility used to get more extra software on the Linux platform. We can install and enable the RpmForge repository repo on Linux.

How To Install and Enable RepoForge Repository On Linux:

Check the Linux distro version you’re using. if the below commands do not work, you can also get the repository directly from here. We can install an extra package repository for extra software on Linux using a single command.

yum install epel-release -y

Once you have installed the repository, just build the repo with yum repolist.

[root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release 
CentOS Linux release 7.7.1908 (Core)

Check your Linux processor architecture.

[root@localhost  ~]# uname -a
Linux master-node 3.10.0-1062.18.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Mar 17 23:49:17 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Now download the rpm package using the below link for Linux 7 so

[root@localhost  ~]# wget http://pkgs.repoforge.org/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el7.rf.x86_64.rpm

Now download the rpm package using the below link for Linux 6 so

[root@localhost ~]# wget http://pkgs.repoforge.org/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el6.rf.x86_84.rpm
[root@localhost ~]# rpm -ivh rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el6.rf.x86_84.rpm

Now download the rpm package using the below link for Linux 5

[root@localhost  ~]# wget http://pkgs.repoforge.org/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el5.rf.x86_64.rpm
[root@localhost  ~]# rpm -ivh rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el5.rf.x86_64.rpm

Install the package using the below command and enable it. 

[root@master-node ~]# yum install --enablerepo=rpmforge packagename

If you need to disable it, you can simply go to the file vim /etc/yum.repos.d/rpmforge.repo

Then enabled=0 and save the file.
