Install MySQL 5.6 Database Server Using Repository on Linux

If you want to install MySQL 5.6 Database server in Linux using the repository, MySQL 5.5 version would be installed from default repository  & Configure MySQL server and also enable MySQL service Linux. you will need to install MySQL client. 

For installing a specific version, you need to download or create a repository for the same. MySQL server most widely used database server.

We can use the same repository in all Linux distro to install MySQL. In that, you will have to enable the repository otherwise you will get conflict with other repo.

yum-config-manager --add-repo repourl

This is easy to configure and having good performance among them other database servers but you can’t restore the same database name in the different database names.

Install MySQL 5.6 Database Using Repository In Linux:

So I’m going to install a 5.6 version here using the repository from MySQL. you can manually download and install the server Once you forgot the root password and not able to retrieve it.

So, there’s a way to get the password from the log file called mysql.log.

Step 1: Create a repository file in the below location and also run yum repolist

vim /etc/yum.repos.d/mysql.repo

# Enable to use MySQL 5.6 [mysql56-community]
name=MySQL 5.6 Community Server 
baseurl=http://repo.mysql.com/yum/mysql-5.6-community/el/6/$basearch/
enabled=1 
gpgcheck=1 
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-mysql

configure mysql server

Step 2: MySQL Server installation with the client and server on the Linux server.

yum install mysql mysql-server -y

Step 3: Start and enable MySQL service Linux. 

systemctl start mysqld && systemctl enable mysqld

Install MySQL 5.6 Database

Once it’s installed and running you can check the port must be listening to the default 3306.

netstat -tnlp | grep 3306

Get the MySQL 5.7 Repository. 

[mysql57-community] 
name=MySQL 5.7 Community Server 
baseurl=http://repo.mysql.com/yum/mysql-5.7-community/el/6/$basearch/ 
enabled=1 
gpgcheck=1 
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-mysql
