Step of Installation Java 1.8 Version:

apt-get install java-1.8* -y

Step 1: Extract the tar file at any location

tar -xzf jre-8u181-linux-x64.tar.gz

Step of Installation Java

Step 2: Go to the location where it has been extracted and reach this location

/opt/jre1.8.0_181/bin/

install java 8 ubuntu

I have installed java in /opt directory then you have to run following commands to achieve this.

sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /opt/jre1.8.0_181/bin/java 1
sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/javaws java /opt/jre1.8.0_181/bin/java 1

ubuntu install java

Note: If you see javac there you can also install it in the same way.

Step 3: Now java installed on your system. Check it by

java -version

Install Java 8 In Ubuntu:

you can use the below command to install the OpenJDK 8 version. This will install the default java which is available on the server. 

sudo apt install openjdk-8-jdk

When you try to install using the PPA repository but this doesn’t work for ubuntu 20.04. So, you can add the below repository. 

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt update

If you want to install Oracle Java 8 version, use the below commands. 

sudo apt install oracle-java8-installer

This command will install and make it the default Java on the systems.

sudo apt install oracle-java8-set-default
