Step To Install Python 3.7 Programming Package On Ubuntu 18.04

By default, python 2.7 will be installed on Ubuntu 18.04. If you have a requirement for any reason to upgrade this current version to Python 3.7, So you can do that. Let’s see, Step to install the latest Python 3.7 version programming language on ubuntu.

Step To Install Python 3.7 Programming Package On Ubuntu 18.04

Verify the current version installed on the Ubuntu machine. so

python –version

python install

Python 2.7 version installed on Ubuntu 18.04, now I’m going to upgrade it to python 3.7 version.

Step 1: Run the below command to keep your system up to date.

sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

After system up-gradation, you can simply try,

sudo apt-get install python3.7

if the above command works for you, it’s better otherwise we have another method to install it.

Step 2: You can use deadsnakes PPA repository.

Run the following commands

sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:deadsnakes/ppa

Now install python,

sudo apt-get install python3.7

For Fedora Linux,

sudo dnf install python3.7

Install Python 3.7 using source code on Ubuntu machine 18.04 is pretty easy to do that. Python is most widely used in Data Science to analyze the data and it also has huge demand as a programmer. We can install and update python 3.7 using source code in ubuntu Linux. so

Step 1: First of all, update the packages list and installed them.

sudo apt-get install update
sudo apt install build-essential zlib1g-dev libncurses5-dev libgdbm-dev libnss3-dev libssl-dev libreadline-dev libffi-dev wget

Step 2: Now download the python package from the official site.

wget https://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.7.3/Python-3.7.3.tar.xz

Step 3: Extract the package using below command

tar -zxf Python-3.7.3.tar.xz
cd Python-3.7.3/

Step 4: This command will check all the dependencies required for python.

./configure --enable-optimization

Step 5: Now install the package so

make

Note: Don’t run the make install command, as it will overwrite the default system python binaries.

make altinstall

Step 6: Check the python version. 

python --version
